Recognizing Red Cross Month

The month of March is Red Cross Month. This tradition began in 1943 under President Franklin D. Roosevelt to recognize how the American Red Cross helps people worldwide. Life emergencies from family to health matters can happen while you’re at work. In the Department of Transportation, we want you to be prepared. Many of you are familiar with Share the Ride NC, but this Red Cross Month, we want to teach you about the Emergency Ride Home (ERH) program.

ERH is a free taxi for commuters who have an emergency like a sudden or personal family illness or unscheduled overtime. ERH will provide you with a trip home from work, or to your car. Register online with your Share the Ride NC account today.

To Qualify for ERH, you must:

  1. Be a part-time or full-time employee
  2. Work or live in Durham, Orange, or Wake counties
  3. Have shared a ride, taken the bus, biked, or walked to work on the day the ride is needed

This Red Cross Month, make a commitment to be prepared before life happens! Register (if you have not already) for your Share the Ride NC account.

Please note that the ERH service is not for severe emergency situations, including natural disasters, building evacuations, or other extreme crises.
